Geist Community Church Pastoral Internship

The apostle Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2, saying “what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” In this passage Paul lays the responsibility for intentionally raising up new leaders squarely at the feet of Timothy, who led the church in Ephesus. Timothy was to find faithful men, entrust to them the body of doctrine that Paul taught him, and entreat them to teach others. Today, this all-important responsibility to raise up elder-qualified leaders to fulfill the Great Commission continues to rest upon local church leaders.

The pastoral internship at GCC is an intentional, focused means by which we seek to accomplish what Paul commanded Timothy, while at the same time pursing our desire for planting and assisting other local churches in our own community and around the world that are committed to God’s glory and gospel proclamation. One of the primary ways that we plant and assist other churches is by investing in faithful men who will then go on to proclaim the gospel for the glory of God at these other churches.
The goal of this internship is three fold:

  1. To teach and explain to the intern(s) GCC’s ecclesiological-theological ministry philosophy;

  2. To provide practical instruction—and opportunities for service with elder feedback—in some significant “hands-on” aspects of pastoral ministry in conjunction with continuing theological education through a local or online seminary;

  3. To help the intern(s) grow in practical godliness (not just individually, but also within their families).

Due to the nature of pastoral ministry, this internship will be loosely structured, and a number of learning opportunities will arise spontaneously from the vagaries of church life. Please click the links on the left for more information or click the button below to apply.
