The Nile River Piggery Project - Uganda
In Partnership with Commission International
Each year around Christmas Geist Community Church provides special giving opportunities to support various gospel ministry work around the globe. In 2014 GCC partnered with Commission International in the nation of Uganda to build a piggery in an impoverished community along the Nile River. Commission International is the ministry Pastor Matt worked with to train over 400 pastors and leaders in Uganda during a four-day conference in March 2014. When Pastor Matt visited the land in March 2014 he discovered the piggery had sat unfinished for over a year due to lack of funding (see photos below).
The purpose of the piggery is to provide sustainable food, livestock training and evangelism opportunities with the surrounding community. In Uganda one of the greatest gifts you can give someone is a pig. Commission plans to give a portion of their pigs away in order to tell people about the greatest Gift of Jesus (Romans 6:23). The piggery will not only provide Commission International with a tangible presence in the community but will provide long-term income to fund its evangelism efforts that have seen many people come to faith in Jesus over the past few years. The farm land and additional buildings around the piggery will provide a central location for community events and future pastoral training conducted by Commission International.
